The new and improved Northbridge Hotel has become enormously popular in recent months since the McGirr Family took over and restored the hotel back to its previous glory.
Every Wednesday evening from 5pm until 9.30pm you can pick up 10 chicken wings done in 8 different sauces for just $5. That's just 50 cents each, what a bargain!
You can select from:
- Buffalo
- Honey Mustard
- Teriyaki
- Jamaican
- Mozambique
- New Orleans BBQ
- Smokey Texan
- Extra Hot "000" flavours
Us 2 little piggies ordered 10 New Orleans BBQ and 10 Smokey Texan wings to share and they were fabulous. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauces were nicely spiced. 10 is a large serving size so make sure you are hungry!
If you are lucky enough to catch their monthly Hot Wing Competition you'll have a great laugh. We'd recommend that you finish eating your own wings and not overindulging before the event. Even as a spectator, you can feel the pain and sheer heat that these contestants bravely (or stupidly) put their bodies through.
We were fortunate to catch the 3rd Hot Wing Competition and even more fortunate not to witness any vomiting. 15 contestants were given 1 minute to satisfactorily eat a chilli chicken wing before progressing to the next stage. Each stage served a hotter wing than the wing previously.
They were so hot that the chef wore gloves and towards the final stages, he wore a tea towel over his face to protect himself from the sheer heat of the chilli. To make it all the more fun, contestants were only allowed one serviette, one beverage (no milk allowed) and were constantly tempted to quit by either drinking a shot of milk which carried with it instant disqualification or to quit giving in to the taunts of the Chicken Man.
At level 10 we had a winner, the gentleman in the white t-shirt. While it was a tremendous effort, the title for the highest level ever reached still rests with Adam "Fish" Fischer, a Northbridge local having reached level 12. And I hear you ask what is the ultimate prize for putting your body through such agony? A mere $100 tab at the Hotel. You'd have to be a Chicken!
